Nepal is a scenic country bordering the Himalayas and home to some excellent educational institutions such as Kathmandu University and Tribhuvan University. Nepal has several scholarship opportunities for local and international students.  Scholarships for students in Nepal are mainly undergraduate, merit-primarily based, and discipline-based.

You can study in Nepal with fully or partially funded scholarships. The Nepalese government and Nepalese universities offer scholarships to international students and locals every year.

The Asia Pacific Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization (APMA) is an intensive, interdisciplinary 12-month postgraduate program offered jointly by the Institute for Human Rights and Peace at Mahidol University (Thailand) and the Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), Kathmandu Law School (Nepal), University of Colombo (Sri Lanka), Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia).

 This program reflects the inseparable relationship between human rights, democracy, peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The program is aimed at those seeking a better understanding of regional and global human rights and democratization issues. The program is suitable for human rights practitioners and activists, those working in related fields, or freshmen who have just completed their undergraduate studies.

The Asia-Pacific Master’s Program in Human Rights and Democratization (APMA) 2022 is available for Masters at Mahidol University.

  • Master’s thesis submission and successful defense.

Established thesis

  • Each student must submit an original paper on the approved topic. Articles should be between 14,000 and 18,000 words in length.

  • Earn a bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum GPA of 2.50 (or equivalent).

  • Proven English knowledge. 
  • Experience in human rights or related work is advantageous but not required. 
  • Academic or other publications or other evidence of writing and analytical skills are advantageous but not required.

Swangsri Sivakriskul Jehendar Scholarship: The Swangsri Sivakriskul Jehendar program is open to all Nepali citizens. To be eligible for selection, students must have:

  • At least in his/her 10th grade in public school with the achievement of an 80% grade. 
  • Secure 75% or more of grade 12 grades from a private or public institution. 
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and good character. 
  • Entered KCM – Siam University International BBA Program. 

KCM Merit Award:

  • A student must have successfully completed her first year at KCM.
  • Students must have achieved the highest grades in their first year. 

Manisha Memorial Achievement Award:

The student must have successfully completed the second year at KCM. Best grades must be achieved in the second year.

 Nirajan Memorial Achievement Award: 

  • The student must have successfully completed his/her third year at KCM. 
  • A student must have achieved the highest grades in his/her third year. 

Management Appreciation Award: Each year, the Management Appreciation Award is presented to students who have demonstrated great potential in their academic and extracurricular activities while at KCM.

5. LGBTQ+ Scholarship

Lastly,

The Government of Nepal, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, offers annual scholarships to Nepalese students for admission to Kathmandu University and Constituent Colleges, Tribhuvan University (TU) Constituent, and Affiliate Colleges. 

This scholarship is a merit-based scholarship. The Nepal Institute of Medicine (IOM) offers about 10 BScs. Nursing, 45 MBBS, and several merit-based emergency medicine courses for Nepalese students. 

Similarly, the IOE – institute of engineering also provides scholarships for students in Nepal on the basis of your IOE entrance score. Scholarships are awarded annually. 

For international students, American students are eligible for undergraduate scholarships to study in Nepal from the Henry Luce Foundation and the Bohlen International Research Award. 

The latter offers interested students up to $20,000 per year. Additionally, an American student who does not have the financial means to study abroad can receive $4,000 to $5,000 to study in Nepal through the Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship.
